Scoopers Kitchen: Reviews & Ratings

This month marks three years from when I first went and discovered Scoopers Kitchen, after watching local food vloggers 'Authentically Charles' and Misty from 'Food Fiend' visit here and do their reviews. Today was also the first time ever for me to get a mixed plate, being two choices for $13. I wanted badly the sweet sour spareribs once more and for my first ever ordering of Chimere's (she and husband are the owners- husband does the lunch wagon portion by Spectrum Hawaii in the Mililani area) teri -beef plate. Thinking today would be busy as tomorrow is Good Friday, I for the first time also called in the order about 7:40am and told her I would be picking up the plate lunches around the 9am opening. My brother wanted the turkey with gravy and sweet sour spareribs combo and I wanted the sweet sour spareribs and the teri-beef. As usual I ordered their toss salad with her homemade French dressing (their mac salad is NO slouch---but man, the toss salad with that dressing... delicious!) with about half the amount of rice. Nice thing about this place is she will 'work' with you to semi-customize your starch/salad options... Anyway, got there about 8 minutes after the 9am opening and was surprised to just see 3 others ahead of me and just one other person behind me in line. I overheard the person who stood in front of me wanting the turkey plate and Chimere telling him he was lucky as she only had enough for three more plates. Wow, that tells you how many of her customers love the turkey and called in ahead to place their order! I didn't know that the drink for the mixed plate combo was still included in the price since the prices went up in January 2024. I thought it was now ala carte, but when Chimere told me what drinks I wanted (and I was surprised as I thought I would have to pay an additional $1 each for the two drinks), I asked for the Arizona Ice Tea (choose from Arizona or the Aloha Maid brands) and my favorite Diamond Head soda flavor, Creme Soda! Got home and waited for about two hours before I ate lunch... the teri-beef for the very first time, and let me just say... the flavor is sooo local... shoyu, garlic and ginger taste and sugar or mirin as the mildly sweet flavor came through and the thinly sliced bbq meat... soft, not chewy or sinewy like sometimes Zip**'s serves... Delicious and I didn't microwave it either to get it even warm! What can I say about her sweet sour spareribs... ono!!! Never any bones or gristle... she chooses the good portion cuts of the meats to make spareribs ... not like other places that almost 1/3 or 1/2 of the piece includes the bone... In my younger days, this mixed plate would have been all eaten and I could eat even a little more, but now as a retiree, it is astonishing how I cannot even eat half of the mixed plate, it will be for my dinner! As always, Chimere puts a smile on her customers faces from beginning to end and is always cheerful! Scoopers Kitchen is truly a hole in the wall establishment in Waipahu's industrial area.. like everyone says... the yellow sandwich board at the sidewalk is the locator that here is Scoopers along with being close to Cutter Mazda Waipahu. Always, highly recommended!

I am always torn about writing a review for places like Scoopers (a hidden Waipahu gem). Write about how great they are, and it gets crowded. However, you want the owners to be successful, so here is my review. Super friendly service, and good food at affordable prices for the working man. Look for the sign on the sidewalk that says where it is. Roast beef plate was ono. Going to try the mushroom chicken next. 5 stars. Thank you, Scoopers!

I wish I could give them 6 stars. I love their choices everyday. There are definitely regulars who come on the days for mushroom chicken, baked spaghetti, shoyu chicken, laulau. Massive plate lunches like the good old days. Mixed plates over flowing. And the owners are so nice and generous!! You get a ghiradeli brownie with every plate!

When a ordinary plate lunch just wont do, go to Scoopers! Exceptional food! My "go to" plate lunches are: Hamburger steak Teri-hamburger steak Chili frank Sweet sour spareribs (Not like other sweet sour spareribs that are all bones} Laulau Beef stew Beef curry Baked spaghetti The mac salad here is good. There are some places where I will not eat the mac salad. TIP: Try a "micro mini" plate. It's just a scoop of rice and entree. Lots of food for a small price.

This is a walk-up window located in the industrial area of Waipahu. The food is delicious! Many love their roast pork, pork adobo, and shoyu chicken. My favorite is their shoyu chicken! Very flavorful and cooked to perfection. Not dry at all. Their prices are also very reasonable for the portions that you get. Each day, they have about 5-6 different specials. It is recommended to go when they open or to call in your order before 9am because they tend to get very busy and also run out of food quickly. They can run out of food as early as 11am. Their hours are from 9am-1pm Monday-Friday, but they tend to close once they run out of food. The service is phenomenal! The Auntie who owns the restaurant is super friendly and has great customer service. If you are Waipahu and looking for a good plate lunch, you should check this spot out.

Last year my friend raved about this place. He was going to bring me a plate but it was closed that day. Sadly, my friend passed away, so I made it a priority to honor his memory by eating at one of his favorite places! Scoopers makes a good plate lunch at a good price. You have a choice of a mix plate (2 choices, $13), regular ($11), mini ($9), or micro ($7). The plates come with a yummy brownie, and the mix plate also comes with a can drink. There's an extra charge for paying with a credit card, but no tax if you pay with cash. This is a good value. We are townies, so going out to Waipahu to get there early (open from 9am until they run out, usually before 1pm) was an event. Today, we tried the homemade hamburger steak, beef stew, shoyu chicken, and baked chicken. Everything was very good. I'm happy we made the drive. I can't say we'd go again (because of the distance from home), but we definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a solid local-style plate lunch.

Correction: Tax is already included in the price if paying with cash. In any case, you will come out ahead if you're looking for a cheap meal with a dessert for a reasonable cost. I understand they take phone orders too, but you must call early before they open.

Generous portion sizes - even the Mini and Micro sized servings are beyond adequate! The owner allowed me to sample a few options before I settled on the mildly seasoned Beef Curry, served with Rice + Mac Salad. Service was exceptional and ambiance was decidedly and unexpectedly industrial. So many regular customers coming in for their favorite specials!! As everything is already prepared, customers are in and out very quickly. INCREDIBLE VALUE AND QUALITY.

This place is sooo worth it! Such a good price for massive and delicious plate lunches! The mixed plate is worth it. Comes with a brownie and a drink. Such a deal for $13! They give so much food! Their laulau was sooo delicious and their kalua pig is homemade and had a great smoke flavor. Their mac salad is also homemade and tasted good. Their brownie and haupia were good to end the meal with. I couldn't finish the entire thing, so I had 2 meals from this plate lunch! Definitely give it a try because it's so worth it for the price!
